Our Second stop is a few days on the west side of Puerto Escondido near a beautiful little cove - Playa Carrizalillo. It is uncrowded with an ideal sandy beach (perhaps 1000 ft wide) framed with rocks at the edges. The water has very tame waves and no current, and so is ideal for swimming. A couple surfers are always at the point at the edge of the cove. There are a few family vendors where you can sit under a palapa and have beer and seafood that is fresher than the best seafood restaurant in the downtown tourist area (personal experience).
This afternoon we travel 8km +- to the very end of the playa zicatela. We have a little hotel room across the street from the escuela espaniol. We met our hosts Ramon and Kati on Friday and had a great introduction. Ramon is very friendly and fun spirited. I made a deal with Ramon to buy a couple bicycles and sell them to him when we leave. I found a great little used bike shop near the Mercado and hopefully today will find some bikes that will suffice. The commercial area of playa zicatela is about 1/2 hour to 45 min walk from the school, so bikes will really extend our range and allow us to better circulate about town. There is a half moon beach tucked just inside the main point of the coast that is an easy walk from our hotel. I'm sure we will be in the surf every day.
