Arrive in Managua - get outta town to Masaya, a major center for handicrafts in the region and a base for visits to the smoking crater of the Santiago volcano.
A few days in Granada a colonial town founded in 1524.
Then on to Ometepe Island & get safely nestled between two volcanoes. We can stay at a farm (Finca Magdalena) a mile or so up the slope of the volcano Maderas. The panoramic views are spectacular. Maybe hike up to the lake in the top. (1400 meters). One crop this cooperative farm grows is coffee, much of which they sell to an association on Bainbridge Island (Seattle area) The coffee is organic and fair trade which provides funding for local schools, scholarships and local improvements.
